INTERESTING ASPECTS OF THE OCCULT. THIS IS A FASCIST-FREE BLOG!

Metaphysics is the science of the universals;
it is the science of
essences, i.e. realities that are universal and unchanging,i.e. do not
depend on time or any particular degree of manifestation. Metaphysics is
not the same as speculative philosophy or theories of creation.
Metaphysics is and is true whether or not Big Bang Theory of the
Hypothesis of Evolution are true. The subject matter of metaphysics
proper is the Truth as perceived by the so-called Divine Mind.
Metaphysics is not a human knowledge but is the content of the Divine
Intellect or Pure Intellect. Metaphysics is not invented or learned; it
cannot really be taught; it is only discovered, i.e. remembered, by a
Seeing that is altogether other-worldly and absolute. This science,
contrary to all other human sciences, is not done by speculation or
experimentation but through intellection which is a transcendental, and
by no means mental, activity of the spirit.Metaphysics is about Truth Itself and not what men and women, whether
saints or philosophers, have thought or said about the truth.
Metaphysics is about the architectonics of reality as a whole, i.e.
totality, as opposed to empirical science which consider reality only
insofar as it is sensible and measurable by minds and men. We cannot
say, for example, that metaphysics is other than physics though it is
also not identical with it. Metaphysics encompasses all other sciences
and is their very ground, but the nature of its relation to human
sciences is always misunderstood; this relation is best understood only
within the framework of an analogy, of course until the attainment of
metaphysical realization which is the same as the Liberation. So, we
offer the following analogy that we hope clarifies the nature of the
relationship between metaphysics and empirical reality or empirical
sciences:Consider a video game in which your avatar, i.e. your embodied
character inside the game-world, is put in a world similar to ours and
its mission is to explore this world and find its natural laws.
Basically, in this game you are a scientist that has to use the tools of
the game to find the most general regularities of that world, things
such as gravity, electricity, etc. Now, if we want to transpose the
idea of metaphysical knowledge into the context of this game, what
element of the game should we choose? Let us begin by saying that
metaphysics is not anything of the nature of a fact or a piece of
knowledge within the game-world and can be sought and found in the same
manner that one seeks and finds the facts of a world. It is not
something that our scientist can find by means of exploring inside the world game.Within the context of our game, metaphysical knowledge can be
compared not to any natural law or any fact of the game-world but to the
programming code that is behind the very phenomenon called the
game-world and has made that world possible. Our scientist cannot find
this underlying code by exploring inside the game-world and
experimenting on its phenomena; he himself and all his explorations,
etc. are nothing but the manifestations of the programming code
underlying the game. To access metaphysical knowledge, i.e. the code in
this analogy, the avatar does not even have to look outside himself or
to move around, for this knowledge is, as it were, inside him, i.e.
known by realizing that “there is a game” and then trying to transcend
it. Now, how a game can be programmed so to make such our scenario
possible, and whether it is possible or not, is entirely irrelevant
here. The point of analogy was only to show the radical nature of this
science of metaphysics and its relation to all other empirical sciences
which can know only what is inside the game and not what is behind it.
Even the methods of inquiry are radically different: In empirical
science we explore and experiment, but metaphysical truths, i.e. that
programming code, is not susceptible to such methods of investigations;
the only way of accessing such knowledge is to somehow exit or transcend
the game, or more precisely, to wake up rather than to look out and
explore. It is natural that the methods of inquiry inside the game, methods
designed to find empirical facts and natural laws, can in no way help
one even become aware of the possibility of a programming code behind
the game, let alone finding that code. All such methods, all empirical
sciences, are sciences of phenomena, but metaphysics, being the science
of essences, i.e. the science noumena as opposed to phenomena,
has nothing to do with phenomena but the meaning behind them. In other
words, metaphysics studies the metaphysical roots of phenomena.
Therefore, the failure of empirical methods in becoming conscious of the
possibility of metaphysical knowledge, let alone discovering it, is
only a failure and a shortcoming and doesn’t mean that there is no
metaphysical foundation, or code, behind the game, a code that is
different from the facts and natural laws inside the game simply because
these laws are themselves manifestations, or projections, of that very
code. One cannot use these methods to prove or deny the existence of a
program behind the game, and this indicates the futility of all attempts
at denying that there is a metaphysical foundation behind all things.
The ultimate proof of metaphysical truths and realities is metaphysical
realization, and this realization has been known and done and is not
something up for discussion or refutation. As we have said many times,
those trying to deny metaphysical knowledge, which by the way has
nothing to do with god or religion but encompasses them, are like blind
men trying to dispute the reality of a rainbow. A true metaphysician,
i.e. a Jivan Mukta, never bothers trying to prove to anyone the
possibility and reality of metaphysical truth; he can at best show the
way for the seeker of truth to see and realize for himself that which is
never a matter of opinion or speculation of any kind: The only proof of the Face is the face Itself. Now, what does all this have to do with geometry? Well, as we said
metaphysics is the science of universal and immutable truths, realities
that are unchanging, and hence do not depend on time or any becoming
whatsoever. Thus, all theories of creation, modern or traditional,
religious or secular, are only human theories and speculations and at
best have symbolic value, for they all presuppose a becoming of some
sort. In metaphysics, there is no becoming. Creation is a human fact;
from a metaphysical, i.e. transcendental, point of view, creation and
becoming are absurd and unreal concepts. But since we find ourselves as
humans in the midst of a world of becoming, our thinking is conditioned
by it and can understand things mostly in terms of being and becoming.
At the same time, because of the transcendental nature of metaphysics it
can only be understood through analogies until the point of
metaphysical realization in and through which all metaphysical truths
are grasped immediately and intuitively and with absolute certainty.A proper and successful analogy is that which is based on a
fundamental but common feature present in both sides of the analogy.
Since immutability and the absence of time and becoming is the most
fundamental and definite characteristic of metaphysics, the most
appropriate analogical means for its expression should be another
science that is devoid of the concepts of time and becoming. We know
that all empirical sciences such as physics, biology, etc. are in fact
about change and becoming, so they cannot possibly provide enough ground
for a successful analogical method of communicating metaphysical
truths. Of all the sciences accessible to man, the only one that is
devoid of the concept of change and time is geometry, and in general
pure mathematics. There is a direct correspondence between most
propositions of geometry and abstract algebra, and this to the extent
that we can even say geometry and abstract algebra are only two
different ways of expressing same mathematical truths: In abstract
algebra we are dealing with abstract symbols and their relationships but
in geometry we are dealing with spatial relationships, so it is like
abstract algebra only with the advantage of visualization. For this
reason, geometry is a little more suitable for communicating
metaphysical truths because it allows some space for visualization which
is a great tool in all learning. Thus, we believe and we can show that metaphysical truths, which are
entirely independent of the concepts of god, creation, divine, etc. but
are at the same time the very source and ground of all these concepts
and realities, is best conveyed through geometry. And it is no surprise
that geometry has always been considered a sacred science and present
almost in all esoteric schools such as Pythagoreanism, Platonism,
Neoplatonism, Eastern and Western religious esoterisms, and also in
Freemasonry. For example, the letter G at the center of
the symbol for Freemasonry consisting of square and a compass,
traditional tools of architecture, stands both for God and Geometry, in
which God is viewed as the Great Architect of the Universe who creates
by means of immutable and intelligible relationships, i.e. geometrical
forms. We only add that geometry is not to be seen as identical with
metaphysics, and we should not think that in reality there are points
and circles; but geometry and its concepts are used as the best symbolic
means of expressing intelligible realities that are beyond any spatial
relationships. In other words, geometry is the reflection of
intelligible truths in the plane of human mind which can understand
things only in terms of the conditions of time and space. The reflection
of the sun in the pond is not the sun but can tell much about the sun,
at least about its form. Metaphysics too exposes the universal forms by
which truth can manifest Itself, the Truth Itself and in Itself
remaining always unmanifest and only known by being it, a mode of
knowledge accessed upon metaphysical realization, i.e. Supreme Identity. It is outside the scope of this article to delve into geometry and
show the metaphysical truths that are reflected in it. Our goal was only
to show, firstly, the radical nature of the science of metaphysics and
its relationship to all other spheres of human knowledge, and secondly,
to suggest the best way of approaching this science, which is done
through geometry. We hope that in the future we can devote a few
articles to some aspects of metaphysics using geometrical truths. The
main problem that makes metaphysics difficult to understand for the
average mind is that metaphysics is not a science for everyone and
requires a very refined and objective intelligence not deformed by the
assaults made against the mind by the universal compulsory education.
One needs to know some abstract algebra and be very well familiar with
geometry, particularly the theory of functions, power series, Taylor
Expansions, etc. in order to perceive the subtle metaphysical truth
reflected in these forms. However, metaphysical truths, which is a way
toward liberation and Supreme Identity,
is not the only way. Religion and spiritual disciplines have the same
end in view. While metaphysics is the way to Truth for the born
philosopher, religion is a way for everyone, even the last man. The
spiritual man if he succeeds may come to see the Face of Truth, but the
metaphysician if he succeeds comes to see the Whole of Truth.

“Yoga nidra (Sanskrit: योग निद्रा) or yogic sleep) is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the ‘going-to-sleep’ stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness (yoga nidra) is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal of the 5 senses (pratyahara) with four of his or her senses internalised, that is, withdrawn, and only the hearing still connects to the instructions. The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state of meditative consciousness called samadhi.”

Alchemy has been called a “proto-chemistry”, but it also had a spiritual nature. Scholars such as C.G. Jung made profound studies about alchemy, finding in it apowerful archetypal symbolism which could give people the possibility of transforming themselves in a deep way. The first step, as they say, it’s the hardest. Human beings reach their free will through self-discovery, but we don’t try to self-discover ourselves until our situation has become so painful that we don’t have any other way than to recreate ourselves. We don’t accept that we must transform our life until we hit rock bottom. This is called the Dark Night of the Soul. This is a process describing a crisis of faith, or of meaning, in which every value in our life is questioned, losing its weight. One feels as if one was wandering in deep, dark labyrinths, without any exit on sight. This process is called in alchemy the nigredo, the black phase.
In alchemical treatises, this phase is represented with images of ravens, skulls, skeletons and dead bodies. The black phase represents the death of the ego, the limited personality of man, and allows for a deeper contact with one’s personality’s core, the self. Suffice to say, this is a process which not many people go through voluntarily, since it requires that one’s ideas and preconceptions about the world are brought down. The Arcanum XVI of the tarot, The Tower, illustrates in a dramatic way this process. This is a symbolic and initiatorical death through which every person seeking to recreate themselves must pass. Historian of religion Mircea Eliade explores this theme extensively in his book “The Forge and the Crucible”, where he writes about this kind of alchemical death is
“The reduction of all substance to the prima materia [primal matter], to the masa confusa [confused mass], which corresponds –in a cosmological place- to the primordial situation, to chaos. Death represents a return to the formless, a reintegration of Chaos.”
This type of experiences are marked by a loss of meaning in life. Psychologically, a crises of the ego happens. The ego must then adapt to its new situation, or die. We witness this type of situations (either in our lives or in those around us) when a relationship breaks up, be it a romantic relationship, when someone is fired from their job, or we cut communication with a loved friend. The ego falls back to the original chaos, from which it must arise again by overcoming its catastrophe, or die in order to stop feeling pain. Ancient alchemists gave great importance to this phase, in which one can experience the deepest darkness related with the blackness of spiritual death. Eliade writes that
“This kind of experiences translate into Saturnian symbolism, into melancholy. The figure of Chronos-Saturn represents the Great Destroyer that is Time and, thus, both death (putrefaction) and rebirth”.
This death must be understood from a symbolic perspective. Because of its symbolic meaning, there is a possibility of a resurrection of the individual. From the fragments of the destroyed ego arises a new ego, renewed by its traumatic experience, and now closer to its core, the self. This is associated with the later phases of the alchemical process, of which Eliade writes that
“The phase following the nigredo, the leukosis [or] the albedo, correspond to a ‘resurrection’ which translates into the appropriation of certain states of consciousness which are inaccessible to the mundane condition. The two following phases, the citrinitas and the rubedo, which crown the alchemical opus and lead to the Philosopher’s Stone, further develop and fortify this new initiatorical consciousness.”
Excerpt from “Remain Faithful to Your Idea” in Five Lessons by Neville Goddard.
Man, by assuming the feeling of his wish fulfilled, and then living and acting on this conviction, alters the future in harmony with his assumption. Assumptions awaken what they affirm. As soon as man assumes the feeling of his wish fulfilled, his fourth-dimensional Self finds ways for the attainment of this end, discovers methods for its realization.
I know of no clearer definition of the means by which we realize our desires than to EXPERIENCE IN THE IMAGINATION WHAT WE WOULD EXPERIENCE IN THE FLESH WERE WE TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL. This imaginary experience of the end with acceptance, wills the means. The fourth-dimensional Self then constructs with its larger outlook the means necessary to realize the accepted end.
The undisciplined mind finds it difficult to assume a state which is denied by the senses. But here is a technique that makes it easy to “call things which are not seen as though they were,” that is, to encounter an event before it occurs. People have a habit of slighting the importance of simple things. But this simple formula for changing the future was discovered after years of searching and experimenting.
The first step in changing the future is DESIRE, that is, define your objective – know definitely what you want.
Secondly, construct an event which you believe you would encounter FOLLOWING the fulfillment of your desire – an event which implies fulfillment of your desire – something which will have the action of Self predominant.
Thirdly, immobilize the physical body, and induce a condition akin to sleep by imagining that you are sleepy. Lie on a bed, or relax in a chair. Then, with eyelids closed and your attention focused on the action you intend to experience in imagination, mentally feel yourself right into the proposed action; imagining all the while that you are actually performing the action here and now.

Sacred space is the fundamental practice of animism.
Opening sacred space creates a set apart space within a clear
boundary, within which you are present, clear and can be aware of the
spirits that you work with.Being within sacred space keeps your formal animism work separate
from your daily life, which can be very helpful in the beginning. And as
you progress, sacred space provides support for more powerful, deep
work where you need to keep your intent and energy clear.Without sacred space, your practice can suffer from distracted intent
and awareness. It can become confusing to practice divination or spirit
communication, and your energy can become open to interference.Sacred space is important when you’re working any practice that involves clear intent.
This includes divination, spirit communication, energy work, altar work
and ceremony. It’s also a great way to nourish and re-charge yourself,
simply through being within the space.Opening sacred space can be as simply as a quick prayer to your
helping ancestors, to a full ceremony with candles and a physical
boundary like a ribbon or salt. The only essential requirements are the intent to open sacred space
and a power greater than yourself that you can call on. The power can be
anything from your helping ancestors, to a deity, to the elements.

The Principles of Animism
Animism is as diverse as it is potent.
There are no laws, rules or dogma that apply across animism, and
there are no universal texts, beliefs, teachers or teachings in animism.
All animist practitioners are different, and see their practice
differently.Saying this, it can be difficult for beginners and newcomers to get a
grip on how to begin an animist practice. To be able to understand
animism,we have to do it rather than read about it, but this is hard
when we don’t really understand how it works or why.The following principles are the foundations of animist practice,
found in animism throughout the world, no matter the languages and or
form. When we approach animism for the first time, these principles give
us a solid base from which to have our own experiences and come to our
own understanding.Workability
Workability means that the universe is workable; we aren’t merely
passive objects in our lives, but active participants. We can change
things, direct ourselves, make decisions, break and destroy, create and
maintain. It doesn’t mean that we can force our lives into the exact shape that
we wish, or change the people around us, or change the way nature
works. But it does mean that we can work in partnership with our
relationships to people, objects and that fabric of reality.Relationship
Relationship means recognising that we are always in relationship with
everything in our lives, and that these relationships are crucially
important. We are not islands; we exist in an infinite web of
connection, movement, pattern, energy, emotion, causality. In animism, these relationships are the means through which we work
with the world. Almost all animist practices work through these
relationships; enhancing, deepening, pruning, rooting, nourishing,
taking space from or cutting them off.Warriorship
Warriorship is the word I use for the blend of courage, discipline and
integrity that animism requires from us in order to be useful. Without
these qualities, animism can’t work in our lives; we will always be
sabotaging ourselves. But animism recognises that these are not static qualities. We can
grow them and learn how to access them better through specific
practices. And we can express them in varied ways; not just through
physical courage, but through a huge spectrum of internal and external
behaviour.Nature
Nature is vastly important in animism throughout the world. This isn’t
because nature is ‘better’ or ‘safer’, as is often misunderstood in
Western distortions of animism, but rather because it is the heart of
who and what we are as a species.Animists remember that we are animals, and that this animal nature
must be honoured for us to be healthy. Nature reminds us of the
importance of our own individual natures; it provides deep teachings
about freedom, mortality, power, health and relationships.Imagination
Imagination is the language of animism. It lets us understand the areas
of life that are non-linear, non-rational, inaudible, invisible,
unpredictable, uncertain and yet vital.Imagination is used every time we use animist tools, from divination
to spirit communication; it is the sense we use to interpret the world.
It is, like warriorship, a skill that we can develop through practice,
and it will grow as your animist practice does.Having your own relationship with these principles will mean that the foundation of your animism is strong and reliable.

Animism can be very hard to define. The term is used by
anthropologists and historians, theologists and philosophers – not to
mention animists themselves. It’s linked with witchcraft, energy healing, mysticism, the new age, shamanism and spirituality. But animism isn’t any of these things, and it isn’t defined by anthropologists or philosophers or academics either.
It’s a spiritual tradition that has no set rules, no authorities, and
no essential practices. It’s guidelines are instinct, intuition and
practicality. It’s foundation is the direct relationship we all have
with the world.What is animism?
Animism is the fundamental spiritual position of humanity. It’s found
in every culture throughout history, and expressed in a hundred
thousand ways depending on the era, culture, gender, environment and
religion of the people expressing it.Animism is a way of directly & personally relating to everything that exists. *
Beyond a limited interpretation of animism
Animism is often defined as the belief that animals and
objects have a ‘soul’, or that the universe is ‘animated’ by a
‘supernatural being’.However, both of these definitions are
derived from Western religious interpretations of traditional animistic
practices. They assume a shared understanding of the words ‘soul’,
‘animation’ and ‘supernatural being’.While many animists do identify with these ideas, many others do not. Our
modern concepts of ‘souls’ and the ‘supernatural’ are very different
from the understanding of our animism-practicing ancestors, or
practitioners from non-Western cultures. We simply can’t import generic terms from one spiritual approach,
such as Christianity or Hinduism, and expect them to apply to a
completely different spiritual approach, such as the vast diversity of
animistic tradition. How do people ‘do’ animism?
Animism encompasses the use of trance states to access different realms of reality. It encompasses the use of symbolism, ritual and ceremony to affect relationships between people and their world.
It encompasses the expression of wonder and uncertainty and meaning that’s found in art, music, dance, story. It encompasses the untaught way that small children explore their power and their place in the world through play.
It means that we can work with the circumstances of our lives. It includes ceremony,
art in all forms, thinking expansively, being in nature, honouring our
ancestors, working with spirits, divination and working directly with
energy.Practicing animism is different for everyone and is often shaped by our cultural heritage. Sometimes, it simply looks like folk magic, other times it might look like mysticism.
It’s all about relationships…
To practice animism, we engage with the world in a practical, experimental way.
We learn that our experience is bounded by the relationships we have
with our homes, our friends, the bird in the tree over our studio, our
food, our bodies, our pasts. We are bound by these relationships because
we can never step outside of them.…and it’s always practical.
Animism helps us improve our:
- creativity
- family lives
- love lives
- work
- health
- emotions
- environment
- sense of purpose
- freedom and power
When we practice animism, we learn that the words ‘soul’ &
‘spirit’ ares only signposts to a meaning that we can’t ever grasp
intellectually, but that we can work with and experience in a myriad of
ways. And we see that through working with these relationships, we can make our world better in concrete, truly useful ways.
*the caveat being, that this is my take on animism and other
equally valid perspectives exist out there! My position is always
evolving as my experiences unfold, another great thing about animism.

Animism Isn’t
With such a broad definition, it’s helpful to be clear about what animism isn’t.
The Occult Traditions
Occult traditions like Kaballah, the Masons and the Western mystery schools are not animism. Instead, they are often magical systems close to more well known religions.
They have organised structures and a fixed approach that is
consistent between practitioners. They also tend to have a series of
tools and methods which students progress through. However, the occult traditions do use (and often keep alive) tools
that are grounded in animism such as spirit communication and spiritual
healing through prayer. They often work with symbolism and sacred space,
like animism, but in a more structured, less individual, approach.Mysticism
Mysticism is often very close to animism, and sometimes the only distinction I can find is a more inward looking, less practical, approach.
THERE ARE TWO FORMS OF SATANISM,
THEIST SATANISM, THE ACTUAL BELIEVE IN SATAN AS A BEING
(THEIST SATANISTS CAN’T BE ANIMISTS.) AND
LAVEYAN SATANISM, IN WHICH SATAN IS SEEN MERELY AS A SYMBOL OF OPPOSITION TO CHRISITAN AND OTHER THEIST BELIEVES AND DOGMA.
LAVEYAN SATANISM IS STRICTLY ATHEITST.
THEREFORE A SUPPORTER OF ANTON LAVEY’S PHILOSOPHY CAN BE AN ANIMIST TOO.
THIS IS THE MORE TRADITIONAL FORM OF SATANISM, AS PRACTICED IN THE CHURCH OF SATAN.
