Greetings to all celebrating the flow of Earth’s successive seasons! Here in the Northern Hemisphere Fall’s arrival exhilarates, portending harvest bounties, cool evenings and soon leaves ablaze with vivid colors. Those in the Southern Hemisphere thrill to the triumph of Spring’s warmth over frigid Winter. Nature rouses from stasis to surge forth with renewed vigor.
LaVeyan Satanism is an atheistic form of Satanism centered around the symbol of “Satan” utilized to represent pride, passion, rebellion, independence, etc., i.e. man’s carnal desires. It was founded by Anton Szandor LaVey in 1966, making it a very new religion, in the grand scheme of religious history. It was founded in San Francisco, which is also where the Church of Satan is headquartered. Its sacred text, if you will, is The Satanic Bible, also written by LaVey and published in 1966.
Anton LaVey was an occultist, and encouraged the use of magic to aid one’s own selfish ends. In fact, the seventh of The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth says that one must “acknowledge the power of magic if [they] have employed it successfully to obtain [their] desires. If [they] deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, [they] will lose all [they] have obtained”. In saying this, LaVey does not explicitly require a belief in magic to be held to be a LaVeyan Satanist, but many are. I am not one of them.
LaVey often emphasized that in his own tradition, he practiced two forms of Satanic rites, though neither of these were acts of religion. “Rituals” are intended to beget change; three types have been described by him: sexual rituals intended to attract a desired mate, compassionate rituals intended to help people (including oneself), and destructive rituals seeking to harm another. These were often considered to be magical acts meant to be carried out alone. “Ceremonies” are held to celebrate a specific occasion. LaVey’s entire teachings on rites and practices are enclosed within The Satanic Rituals, another book he authored intended to act as a companion to The Satanic Bible.
I hope I’ve been able to provide a small introduction to the religion, and that any confusion has been cleared up!
Because I kind of have my own correspondences for the phases of the moon, I thought I’d explain them here!
• New Moon – the moon is just beginning to become illuminated, so it can correspond with new beginnings, a fresh start, cleansing, exploring new opportunities, newfound health or relationships, finding peace with yourself and moving on – “out with the old and in with the new.”
• Waxing Moon – the moon is continuing to grow, becoming more and more visible, so it can correspond with attraction magick, reaching goals, manifestation magick, positive energy, success, wishes, good luck, gaining wealth, and dreams come true.
• First Quarter – this moon is halfway illuminated, on its way to becoming fully illuminated, so it can correspond to balance, and the need to make decisions.
• Full Moon – the moon is fully illuminated, so it can correspond with extra energy, a magickal boost, cleansing, charging, enchanting, performing divination, and honoring lunar deities.
• Third Quarter – this moon is also halfway illuminated, but on its way to becoming invisible in the sky, therefore while it can still correspond with balance, it can also correspond to focusing on the task at hand, banishing, and breaking old habits.
• Waning Moon – the moon is becoming less illuminated, and seems as though it’s disappearing, so it can correspond to generalized negative energy, reflection, introspection, transformation of the self, banishing things, binding others actions or undoing bindings, letting go, moving on, cleansing, breaking bad habits, and finding peace.
• Dark Moon – the moon is completely hidden in the sky, with no illumination at all, so it can correspond to cursing, banishing, binding, seeking justice, reflection of the self, and generalized destruction.
• Blue Moon – this moon is either the third of four full moons in a season, or a second full moon in a month, so it’s appearance can correspond to wishes, dreams, divination, achievement, and focus.
• Black Moon – this moon is an additional new moon that appears in a month or in a season, or the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in a month, therefore it can correspond to extra power and manifestation.
This post isn’t about creating sigils but, rather what they are and how to use them to their fullest potential. A Sigil is a symbol, but not just any ordinary symbol. They are sigils that are created with intention, will, and magic. They are vessels that carry your intentions- a means of making them manifest. There are three very distinct views on this matter: Instant, Passive, and Active.I personally believe all are correct. However, one method may be more suitable for certain Sigils than the others.
Please note:
It is very important that, while you are drawing the Sigil, you are present and mindfully putting the right intention into it.
Sigils are activated upon creation but can be further powered using any of the following three methods. If you have a book made specifically for Sigils, (especially if you create or keep Sigils for cursing) be sure to create or draw Sigils on the front and back covers that will cancel the effects of all other sigils within the book.
Instant Sigils:
This method is a One-Shot-Johnny. It is the strongest in terms of manifestation. However, the effects are very short-lived. This method involves destroying the Sigil. Once the Sigil is destroyed its power is at 150% but decreases back to 0% at an exponential rate. Depending on the caster, it could last up to two days. I use this method to amplify my spells and intentions.
Here’s how it works:
Take a Sigil, let’s say one for empowering intentions, and draw it onto a piece of paper. Charge the Sigil. You can do this is sooooooo many ways. ‘pray’ to it, masturbate to it, set crystals on it, leave it in the moonlight, etc. Then, once you have set your spell and have started the ritual, burn the Sigil. You are not limited in how you can destroy the Sigil! You can burn, tear, shred, melt, smudge, or soak them (If drawn in water-based ink). The effects will be manifest immediately.
Passive Sigils:
In this form of Sigilwork, Sigils will only manifest while they aren’t remembered. The moment that they are remembered, they lose their effect, or it becomes very weak.
Here’s how it works:
Take a Sigil, let’s say one for positivity, and draw it on a piece of paper. Then charge the Sigil. Then, place the Sigil in a place which no one will find or see it, not even yourself. The Sigil will really start working its magic once you have entirely forgotten about it.
Active Sigils:
Active sigils are powered by remembering them and feeding them intention.
Here’s how it works:
Take a Sigil, let’s say one for protection from negative energy, and draw it on your skin, a piece of paper, or a miscellaneous object you keep on you. Then you would rub or ‘pray’ to the Sigil whenever you needed it, pouring the intention of protection into it as you did so. This strengthens the Sigil and causes a more direct manifestation at the same time. You can charge these Sigils the same as Passive Sigils.
Sigils in Spellcraft:
As I had mentioned above, I use sigils to amplify my focus or intentions. There are other ways to use them in spells. You could even make a spell entirely from Sigils.
In larger spells, you can create Spell Circles- or incorporate Sigils into Sacred Circles. Below is an example of a Spell Circle.
In the center of the circle is the Sigil that acts as the root for the entire spell. This Sigil is basically like the subject of a sentence. Whereas the symbols on the ring of the circle are the actions.
You can create Spell Circles of your own! Step 1: Draw a circle Step 2: Draw a Sigil inside that circle. Step 3: Write the specified implementation of said Sigil around the perimeter of that circle. The language doesn’t matter- as long as it boosts your headspace. (I created my own language/cipher/cryptograph for my GreyGrimoire so that peering eyes wouldn’t be able to read it.) Step 4: Create the rest of the spell around the Spell Circle. (Whether you’re making a spell bottle, or enchanting and Item or casting a curse. Just gather your materials and build correspondences.) Step 5: Cast that mamma jamma!
I have made a Masterpost about Spell Circles and you can find it HERE.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask me or another blog! Remember, everyone’s craft is different- These are beliefs from my craft. Though, I try to be as respectful as possible to other crafts.
We all have that devil inside of us that we have to come face to face with one day. How will you deal with your shadow?
THE DEVIL MEANS NOTHING BAD TO ME. BUT THERE ARE DEMONS INSIDE OF EVERYBODY. DON’T EXORCISE YOUR INNER DEMONS, EXERCISE THEM. LET THEM WORK FOR YOU. AS ABOVE, SO BELOW. NO LIGHT WITHOUT SHADOW, YIN AND YANG, THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO PARTS OF THE WHOLE.
Most people don’t understand magic. They think it is about tapping into a natural and perhaps older reality. Magic is not about tapping in to anything, because there isn’t anything to tap into. There is no reality beyond the one we create. To understand magic one needs to understand what creation is. Creation is the power to create the world by force of will. By claiming, by imagination, by faith. You can’t change anything because there isn’t anything there to change. There is only the world you create for yourself. The world is endlessly open. It is only limited to the borders you set for yourself.
I can try to illustrate this by using the concept of probability. If we roll a die an endless amount of times, then probability works as a concept, but only if no one looks at the die and no one starts rolling it. If we, for example want to manipulate probability we need only to start recording and probability it broken. Lets say you decide to roll a die 19 times and the first two sets of rolls turns out to be fives, now the chance of hitting a new five has significantly dropped. If we didn’t set a start or stop on the count the chance would always be one in six that the die turns out a five.
Now, what we do is not manipulating reality, but rather creating it.
In more ancient times people seemed to have a better understanding on how the power of creation worked. Nowadays we have a different view on the concept of creating. What used to be creating has now become discovering. Discovering something gives the illusion of that you find something true because you believe you tapped into something that was there but no one had seen before. By discovering you tap into a reality that exists separate from the concept of consciousness, an objectively true reality.
By creating you make something exist for the first time, and this the realists call make belief.
It is not possible to make a claim about something that exists beyond the concept of consciousness because you need a conscious mind to make such a claim. There can never be an objective reality.
The only reality that is possible is the one you can make a claim about, the one you create.
This is magic, understanding how reality is made, how to make something real.
Excerpt from Stealing the Fire from Heaven by Stephen Mace
To work Spare’s technique, the sorcerer does not use ritual to call up the power he needs to accomplish his desire. Instead he obtains his desire by stifling the thought of it. He does not permit himself to consider it, and if it should sneak into his thought-stream, he suppresses it as soon as he notices its presence. Spare called this deliberate repression “making the desire organic.” When we dwell on a desire in our conscious minds, we involve ourselves in rational attempts to satisfy it, attempts that bind our energy into structured schemes that defy the fluid essence of power. We waste our energy weaving dreams—tapestries of method and motivation, expectation and fear of failure—veils that keep us from seeing ourselves as nodes of power linked directly to Infinity. But when we repress our desires, they shrink away from consciousness to turn in on themselves—becoming discrete entities—and if we can pour enough energy into them (even as we keep the thought of them out of our waking minds), they will sink down into the wellsprings of Fate, where the energy will be able to adjust Fate’s flow according to our wills.
