The Seal of Lam

Lam is an entity that Aleister Crowley claimed to contact as part of a magickal working he performed in 1918 in an apartment in New York City. This was during the period of Crowley’s life when he was pretty much couch surfing through the states staying at various followers’ homes, sleeping with their wives. The Amalantrah Working was meant to establish contact with extra-dimensional entities and Lam is one of the ones who came through.

If you are a UFO person it only takes one glance at Lam to be like “Oh snap, that’s a Grey!” You’d not be the first person to make that connection, which is why I think Lam has stuck around to this day. Crowley only really mentioned Lam once and then passed this picture on to his disciple/heir Kenneth Grant in the 40s.

Still, the Amalantrah Working was a success, a success that was built on by Jack Parsons (occultist and rocketeer) and L Ron Hubbard (scifi author and hopeful boat captain) in the Babalon Working in 1946. They hoped to create a Moonchild and as part if the Work ended up opening the gate between worlds even wider. Crowley disapproved of the whole affair and Hubbard ended up absconding with Parsons’ cash and wife and went on to found Scientology while Parsons blew himself up under mysterious circumstances.
Delete CommentcoreypressSo! If I’m going to create a Seal of Lam, it will need to have some Crowley-ish underpinnings. Thus the Eye in the Triangle, the 93 greeting, and the scripts in the Alphabets of Daggers and Arrows. The Daggers script reads ‘I Call Unto Stars Past The Veil Of Reality’ while the three Arrows letters in the corners of the inverted triangle, of course, spell L-A-M.

One of the other big Weird Events of the 1940s was the first sighting of what we now consider to be UFOs by Kenneth Arnold in 1947. There is a line of thought that, being dinguses, Parsons and Hubbard sort of left the gate open and it slowly grew wider and wider until more things were able to enter of their own accord. Roswell occurred just a few weeks later – the symbols around the top are taken from those claimed to be found on debris at the crash site.

The symbols on the two sides of the Seal are from alien contactees such as Betty Andreasson and being otherworldy in nature are bound by the alchemical symbols of the four elements. Being me and not being one to resist a joke, I chose the inverted triangle because when combined with Lam’s big ole head, it looks a lot like the Interocitor from This Island Earth, a SciFi movie from the 50s that’s chock-a-block with big headed aliens. .

So you can see, I’m not crazy.
