Ok so chances are you’re super excited for the upcoming lunar eclipse this Friday the 27th – Saturday 28th July, and if you’re anything like me, you probably won’t know what to do with such an opportunity! This event will be the longest total lunar eclipse in a century and will be visible in most parts of the world.
What is a lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse occurs during a full moon when the moon passes behind the earth and directly into its shadow. The earth’s shadow blocks sunlight, and any light that shines through the shadow is reflected onto the moon, giving it a reddish appearance. This is where the name ‘blood moon’ comes from.
Lunar eclipse general correspondences:
Illumination of / unveiling and revealing secrets and hidden knowledge, wisdom, protection, healing, divination, psychic ability, developing magickal skill, banishing negativity, overcoming addictions and bad habits, hexing and cursing, change and transformation, power and honouring divinities. It is also a time of heightened sensitivity for many people, as it’s a powerful shift in energies as the moon completes its phases in a short period of time.
Things to do:
🌘 Cleanse your tools! You can set them out where they’ll recieve the eclipse’s energy.
🌘 Cleanse yourself too. This is a powerful time for removing toxicity and negativity from your life, and you may feel a need to start fresh. That’s ok.
🌘 Deep reflection and soul-searching. Because of the massive shift in energy, you may feel the need to introvert a little while things smooth out. Focus on yourself a little and assess where you are at in your life and where you would like to be.
🌘 Self-care. I know I say it a lot but take care of your lovely selves! Especially if you’re quite sensitve to lunar phases, take this time to heal and replenish yourself. This eclipse encourages change and transformation, so things may be jumpy and it can be an exhausting time. Take time to unwind and relax with bath magick and whatever it takes to pamper yourself a bit.
🌘 View the eclipse and charge underneath it. Invoke its energies for healing, protection, psychic ability etc.
🌘 Release and banish negative emotions you’ve been feeling. Out with the old and in with the new, let go of past negativity.
🌘 Set out some water to charge with the eclipse’s energy to use for future workings.
🌘 Workings for smooth transitions and prosperity afterwards. Encourage prosperous energies after the rocky energy of the eclipse and do some workings for luck, health and beneficial energies as the eclipse’s energies fade.
Full moon of July:
In the Southern hemisphere, July’s full moon correspondences are associated with protection, uncrossing of spells, personal renewal and strength, self-care, prosperity, healing and personal inner matters (e.g. your own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual matters that concern only you).
If you have any other ideas about the eclipse I’d love to hear them! I hope this is useful to you all, and happy Blood Moon! ✨
THE ECLIPSE IS VISIBLE IN EUROPE ONLY. SORRY FRIENDS.
Because I kind of have my own correspondences for the phases of the moon, I thought I’d explain them here!
• New Moon – the moon is just beginning to become illuminated, so it can correspond with new beginnings, a fresh start, cleansing, exploring new opportunities, newfound health or relationships, finding peace with yourself and moving on – “out with the old and in with the new.”
• Waxing Moon – the moon is continuing to grow, becoming more and more visible, so it can correspond with attraction magick, reaching goals, manifestation magick, positive energy, success, wishes, good luck, gaining wealth, and dreams come true.
• First Quarter – this moon is halfway illuminated, on its way to becoming fully illuminated, so it can correspond to balance, and the need to make decisions.
• Full Moon – the moon is fully illuminated, so it can correspond with extra energy, a magickal boost, cleansing, charging, enchanting, performing divination, and honoring lunar deities.
• Third Quarter – this moon is also halfway illuminated, but on its way to becoming invisible in the sky, therefore while it can still correspond with balance, it can also correspond to focusing on the task at hand, banishing, and breaking old habits.
• Waning Moon – the moon is becoming less illuminated, and seems as though it’s disappearing, so it can correspond to generalized negative energy, reflection, introspection, transformation of the self, banishing things, binding others actions or undoing bindings, letting go, moving on, cleansing, breaking bad habits, and finding peace.
• Dark Moon – the moon is completely hidden in the sky, with no illumination at all, so it can correspond to cursing, banishing, binding, seeking justice, reflection of the self, and generalized destruction.
• Blue Moon – this moon is either the third of four full moons in a season, or a second full moon in a month, so it’s appearance can correspond to wishes, dreams, divination, achievement, and focus.
• Black Moon – this moon is an additional new moon that appears in a month or in a season, or the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in a month, therefore it can correspond to extra power and manifestation.
