What is ‘’chaos magic’’

thelittleboxofmagic:

Chaos magic, also spelled chaos magick, is a postmodern magical tradition which emphasizes the pragmatic use of belief systems and the creation of new and unorthodox methods.

Although there are a few techniques unique to chaos magic (such as some forms of sigil magic), chaos magic is often highly individualistic and borrows liberally from other belief systems, due to chaos magic having a central belief that belief is a tool. Some common sources of inspiration include such diverse areas as science fiction, scientific theories, traditional ceremonial magic, neoshamanism, eastern philosophy, world religions, and individualexperimentation. Despite tremendous individual variation, chaos magicians (sometimes called “chaotes”) often work with chaotic and humorous paradigms, such as the worship of Hundun from Taoism or Eris fromDiscordianism and it is common for chaotes to believe in whatever god suits their current paradigm and discard it when necessary. Chaotes can be agnostic or atheist. Some chaos magicians also use psychedelic drugs in practices such as chemognosticism.

According to chaos practitioners a computer is the central tool for connecting the followers, building virtual knowledge libraries and it also could be used for the simulation of the online ritual environment.

Active, And Passive Sigil Activation

wolfofantimonyoccultism:

Once you have your sigil all charged up, and filled with your intent all there is left to do is to cast it into the universe to gain what you want, and desire. This casting into the universe can be done in two ways actively, or passively. Both of these ways have their own benefits, and setbacks, but it is important to determine which way you should activate certain types of sigils, because it changes the way the energy is released into the universe, and allowed to manifest. So we will be taking a look at both these activation styles, and when they would be most effective to use over the other one.

Active Sigil Activation:

In active sigil activation the energy is usually released all at once, or in a very immediate fashion. This is usually done through the means of destroying the sigil to allow all its energy to manifest at once. This type of activation is good for sigils that only have to be used once, or in a single situation. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for banishing, exorcising, purifying, cleansing, manifesting, summoning spirits, removing negative energy, removing spiritual blockages, removing emotional blockages, and one off curses, among many others.

Ways to activate active sigils:

  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and burning it in fire
  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and submerging it in water until it dissolves.
  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and ripping the paper in half.
  • Drawing the sigil in to the sand at the beach, and letting the sea wash it away.
  • Drawing the sigil in the air with your energy, and pushing through it in order to destroy it.
  • Making the sigil out of dust, or powder, and then blowing it away to destroy it.
  • Making the sigil in your mind, and then imagining it being destroyed to activate it.
  • Putting the sigil on food then eating it.
  • Drawing the sigil on a firework, and then set it off.
  • Drawing the sigil on a balloon, and then pop it.
  • Drawing the sigil on your body, and then wash it away.
  • Singing the sigil out loud for all to hear.
  • playing a music, or an audio sigil out loud for all to hear.
  • and much more…

Passive Sigil Activation:

In passive sigil activation the energy is usually released overtime through a very moderate, and controlled fashion. This is done through the means of charging a sigil, and keeping the sigil around with you, or in the area where the energy is needed for it to continuously produce its energy. This type of activation is good for sigils that are needed to continuously affect the world around them. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for protection, luck, empowerment, healing, psychic abilities, transformation, attracting energy, retaining energy, changing, and continuous curses, among many others.

Ways to activate Passive Sigils:

  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper.
  • Drawing the sigil on your body.
  • Carving sigils into a candle, and lighting the candle.
  • Carving sigils into soap, and washing your body with the soap.
  • Making a sigil amulet.
  • Writing the sigils upon stone.
  • Placing the sigil as your computer, or phone background.
  • Posting an image of the sigil online.
  • and much more…

Sigil Magick 101

wolfofantimonyoccultism:

Introduction:

Sigil magick is a powerful, and practical occult art form that can be used to manifest your desires. By understanding the practices, and theory behind sigil magick you will be able to learn this practice for yourself, and bring it into your life, and working. This will be written from my understanding of sigil magick, and will be based not only in chaos magick, but from the perspective of other practitioners, and paradigms that I have gained understanding from, because of this it will be very eclectic, and syncretic in nature, and will hopefully provide a very good overview of sigil magick as a whole. This is a practice that can be very fun, creative, and practical and we’ll be able to help you in many aspects of your life, if you are willing to go through the process of learning it.

What are sigils:

The concept of a sigil can be a pretty hard thing to define, but for the best understanding of it I believe we should start with the word itself. The word sigil comes from the Latin word “Sigillum” which was defined as a seal, or signet. It also may have been connected to the Hebrew word סגולה (segula) meaning charm, or tailsman. The way that I would define a sigil in a magickal sense of the word is a symbol that represents an intent, construct, or entity. These symbols can be used in order to manifest desires, summon forth entities, and represent constructs, and ideas. They are powerful tools that can be used in magick, and can take the shape of anything that can be used as a representation for something else. These sigils are not only limited to shapes, and ligatures but can be things such as, items, videos, literature, sounds, and even music, along with many other things. These sigils are very  versatile, and we’ll be able to be used in all sorts of situations. They can be a pretty complicated idea to get your head around in the very beginning, but once you get it  you will be able to understand all the ins-and-outs  of these magickal constructs.

Primary theories of sigil magick:

Sigil magick is primarily understood from 3 different theories of understanding, these theories being the way of understanding how sigils are able to manifest. Practitioners will usually work with one of these theories, and will understand sigil magick from that point of view. From what I understand all of these theories are legitimate, and should not be looked at separately, but much rather together in order to have a higher understanding of the ins-and-outs of sigil manifestation. These theories I like to refer to as energy theory, consciousness theory, and psychological theory.

Sigils

Every witch creates sigils in different ways, often more than one way work for them but no matter what, if you focus on your intent sigils all work just as well. In this post I’m going to explain the way I make most of my sigils.

How to.

First I write out my intent for the sigil I need and remove all the double letters.

Next I draw a circle and evenly spread vowels around the inner circumference and the rest of the alphabet on the outer circumference.

Now the actual sigil making starts. I join up the letters in the order of the intent we wrote out above.

Finally I translate the sigil off the letter frame and make any additions I feel like is needed, these additions usually consist of making a line thicker or adding a dot or a circle.

And you’re done! Most of my sigils charge through your presence (auras and energy) or light but you can focus them to charge however you want of course!

As always, I’m here if you have any questions or just want to chat, I love talking to new people.

The Secret Sigils of Nature

skepticaloccultist:

The modern world of craft practice is inundated with symbols. From the myriad of cultural religious and sacred imagery that has been appropriated by various magical practices over the centuries to the ever evolving stable of geometric drawings that have long been held to hold some innate metaphysical knowledge, the world of magic is full of symbols.

The sigil, originally a term meaning the signature of a spirit entity, has evolved since the 19th century, through the work of Austin Osman Spare, Kenneth Grant and later UK based chaos magicians, to be a symbolic representation of a spell or goal oriented magic working.

Thus modern magical practice often incorporates the creation of ever further symbols to represent our magical desires, formulations, and contemplations. These sigils have become central to magic in a world of screens, where every grimoire is able to be accessed instantly and the commodity of the symbol, a rarification of knowledge, is lost in the ubiquitousness of the internet age. No symbol is rare, no sigil unique.

Yet as we move through this era of data overstimulation and increasingly thinner language barriers we as magic practitioners have long understood that the true and underlying power of the symbol is in the thing it represents, not the ink on the parchment. The map is not the territory on this side of the mirror of the landscape, nor the other.

When we look for the foundation of symbols like the pentacle and hexagram, geometric forms that outline mathematical truths, we find them everywhere in nature. Their power is in the root of life itself, expressions in plants and animal matter that count themselves innumerably. From the pattern of flower petals to the digits of a human hand, from the forking twists of tree branches to the roots of sacred herbs the mathematical expression that is symbolized in a pentagram, hexagram, squiggly line, pointed arrow, all are found in the natural world. Our sigils are merely representations of things, much as is our language. A pale and dim reflection of a radiant thing of complex arrangement.

As magicians we must return to the land and give less credence to the map. We must let our sigils be the shapes we find in nature, the forking of a leaf, the vein of a stone, a spiral of a shell, the fracture of a bone. The trace of an ancient river our spirit symbol for its essence, the pentate of flower petals the warning of its hidden power.

Language is at best discarded when we enter upon the threshold of that realm beyond. By bringing language into the space of the other we dilute our ability to grasp its architecture. Carrying language with us is baggage best left behind, for as we attempt to categorize and compartmentalize the experiences of the other those experiences move away from us, like a willow the wisp fading in the forest ahead.

When we mistake the map for the territory we lose sight of our path, looking to be guided by the map we are no longer explorers of our own lives but merely commuters on the way to some self perceived goal. The practice of magic and the role it has in our perception of “reality” is one that affords us subtle understandings of the architecture of reality. The reduction of these things to mere symbols and sigils robs them of their agency, reduces and diminishes their power and awe.

It is through a meditative understanding of the expression of these symbols in nature that we as witches will come to grasp the invisible realm of otherness. That beyond, that is part and parcel of the mundane world and yet so often ignored by the masses in their search for comfort and stability. We see the true landscape through the veil, and the symbols that point the way are merely signposts on our path.

Let the sigils of nature manifest in our craft, as stewards of the landscape in which we work, as journeyers along a path through the beyond. Let the flower represent itself without the pentagram, the crossroads reveal itself without the hexengram. The unfolding magnificence of the natural world is the territory we seek to ensnare in our symbols, let them stand for themselves on our altar and in our path. The landscape will reveal those sigils for which all things may be bound, all spirits may be called. We must merely learn to see them in our midst.

Creating a sigil

A sigil magick is a symbol that you creat that carries your will. For example in this tutorial the sigil will bring bravery.

1. Write out your intention

“I will be brave”

2. Remove all repeating letters

W R A V

3. Then simplify the letters into basic shapes

/ / I C /— /

4. Then put those letters together and make a symbol from them. Make the symbol one that you feel comfortable with.

— a way to charge your sigil is to have other people look at it, or you can meditate with it, or sleep with it.

-Now from this step, you can do one of many things.
Fold it up and bury it, Burn it
Rip it to pieces and let the wind carry it off, put it in a river, lake, stream, ect.
rip it, set it in melted candle wax, put in witch bottle.

How to make sigils
a sigil is a symbol that you make that acts as like a spell and helps you achieve a goal.

  1. You have to make a sentence of your desire in capital letters.
  2. You get rid of every repeating letter.
  3. Then you simplify the letters into basic shapes.
  4. Then you design the sigil into a pattern that you like.
(You should encase your sigil into a shape to keep its energies on track)
  5. The sigil is internalized/ activated.

Some quick ways to activate your sigils
-sleep with it
-masturbate and during climax concentrate on the sigil image.
-visualize the sigil working

  1. The sigil is banished so you forget what it means. Or you can destroy the sigil.

Quick way to banish the sigil
-roaring laughter (then think of something completely different)
-you can also burn it and scatter the ashes

<<<<((The faster you forget the sigil, the more effective the operation))
After activation and internalization of a sigil you should not think of the symbol itself nor if it’s meaning. If the sigils image or meaning pop back into your head you must recharge and banish it again.

Some ways to use sigils

-carved into rings
-amulet
-sewn into cloths or on pouches
-written on cigarettes
-draw it on a piece of paper and carry it with you
– draw it on cement with chalk
-draw it on a flower pot
-draw it into dough (cookie, bread, crust)
-draw it in your soup or cake dough or coffee/tea

<<<<<The time it takes for a sigil to work is somewhat unpredictable. Sometimes success will be instant ; sometimes it may take months.

<<<<there are many different types of sigil making methods (the pictorial method, the mantrical spell method, the alphabet of desire ,constructing sigils with planetary cameas (magical squares), working with atavistic nostalgia ), this is just my favorite type.

I learned this information from the book
Practical sigil Magic by Frater U:.D:.

chaosophia218:

Julius Reichelt – Astrological Sigils, 1673.

According to Weill-Parot, the concept of having astrological images on sigils is exclusive to the Christian Latin West. Albertus Magnus proposed the creation of a type of talisman whose power rested completely in natural causes, excluding illicit forms of necromantic magic. This ‘natural magic’ included the use of sigils with astrological images that would contain the astral power of the planets.

Principles of sympathy and antipathy governed the preparation of astrological sigils made of metal. The Sun was astrologically and alchemically associated with gold, so a gold sigil would be struck with a picture of the Sun (usually when it was at its strongest influence, during the vernal equinox) or an astrological sign ruled by the Sun, such as Leo, so the wearer was protected from the malignant influence of the heavens.

Several of Reichelt’s sigils were designed to work by sympathetic principles. Sigils 1–4 and 6–8 were sigils of the Sun in astrological house of Leo. The obverse of sigils 2, 4 and 6 also displays the sign of the ‘heart of the lion’ cor leonis, which is Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation of Leo, as well one of the brightest stars in the night sky. The cabalistic symbol for Regulus is engraved on the obverse of sigils 1, 2 and 7.

The sigils’ astral power could be further enhanced by incorporating scriptural quotations and the names of Biblical prophets. Inscribed on sigils 1, 2, 4 and 6 is the common apotropaic formula “Vincit Leo de tribu Iuda, radix David” from Revelation 5: 5, a reference to the biblical David and to astrological Leo. Similarly, some of Reichert’s sigils were inscribed with words from the Gospel of John: “Verbum caro factum est”, causing demons to flee before the power of ‘the Word made Flesh’.

Inscribing the names of angels on sigils was also thought to be efficacious, a tradition begun in the thirteenth century by the increasing influence of Jewish cabalistic texts such as the Sefer Yezirah and the Sefer Razi’el. The texts claimed that the ‘secret names of the God and the angels provided the means by which the powers were called down into the sublunar levels of the cosmos’, and hence used an intricate and often bewildering angelology in ritualistic magic. In sigils 1 and 7, ‘Verchiel’ is inscribed. Verchiel was invoked as the angel of the month of July, ruler of the sign of Leo. Verchiel (here called Zerachiel) is also governor of the Sun and grants powers of the intellect, language, learning and mathematics.

Several of Reichelt’s sigils also bear geometrical characters of triangles, circles and lines, which he realized represented the ‘intelligences and demons’ of the planets based on numerical associations made with the heavenly bodies derived from the rules of cabala. There is also a magic square or grid of numbers engraved on sigil 10, devoted to the planet Mercury. For early modern philosophers, mathematics and magic were intimately connected. From his doctrine that the elements of the body were mingled in geometrical proportions, and that the soul’s elements combined numerically, Agrippa determined that the derived geometrical and numerical figures had peculiar corporeal and spiritual powers.

dianaandpansson:

“Here next is the talisman and its ring. They have the property of destroying everything, of commanding the elements, of calling down the thunder, hail, the stars, earthquakes, hurricanes, water spouts on land and sea, and of preserving our friends from all accidents. Here are the words which one must pronounce (the numbers indicate each thing which you wish to operate): first, you pronounce: Ditau, Hurandos; second, Ridas Talimol; third, Atrosis, Narpida; fourth, Uusar, Itar; fifth, Hispen, Tromador; sixth, Parenthes, Histanos.”
