Circular chart showing a modern set of Talismanic Geomantic Symbols.

The chart informs the Geomancer on the Elemental, Planetary and Zodiacal Correspondences (conforming to Agrippa’s ideas on Planetary Rulership). The upper half shows the Diurnal Figures and the lower half the Nocturnal. The Arabic words in the center of the Circle, “Ilm-al Raml”, translates to the “Science of the Sands”.

“Geomancy is an Art of Divination, wherby the judgement may be rendred by lot, or Destiny, to every question of every thing whatsoever, but the Art hereof consisteth especially in certain points where of certain figures are deducted according to the reason or rule of equality of inequality, likenesse or unlikenesse,; which Figures are also reduced to the Coelestiall Figures, assuming their natures and proprieties, according to the course and forms of the Signes and Planets.” – Henry Cornelius Agrippa

Components of Sigillum Dei Aemeth.

The Sigillum Dei Aemeth, or Seal of the Truth of God, is most widely known through the writings and artifacts of John Dee. Dee’s system of angelic magic, known as Enochian, is heavily rooted in the number seven, a number which is also strongly connected with the seven traditional planets of astrology. As such, the Sigillum Dei Aemeth is primarily constructed of heptagrams (seven-pointed stars) and heptagons (seven-sided polygons).

The Outer Ring
The Outer ring contains the names of seven angels, each associated with a planet. To find a name, start with a capitalized letter on the ring. If there is a number over it, count that many letters clockwise. If there is a number under it, count that many letters counterclockwise. Continuing the procedure will spell out the names:
Thaaoth – Mars
Galaas – Saturn
Gethog – Jupiter
Horlwn – Sun
Innon – Venus
Aaoth – Mercury
Galethog – Luna
These are the Angels of Brightness, who comprehend the seven “inward powers of God, known to none but himself.”

“Galethog”
Inside the outer ring are seven symbols based on the letters forming “Galethog,” with “th” being represented by a single sigil. The name can be read counter-clockwise. These seven sigils are the “Seats of the One and everlasting GOD. His 7 secret Angels proceeding from every letter and cross so formed: referring in substance to the FATHER: in form, to the SON: and inwardly to the HOLY GHOST.”

The Outer Heptagon
The names of the “Seven Angels who stand before the presence of God,” each also associated with a planet, were written vertically into a 7-by-7 grid. By reading the grid horizontally, you get the seven names listed in the outer heptagon. The seven original names were:
Zaphkiel – Saturn
Zadkiel – Jupiter
Cumael – Mars
Raphael – Sun
Haniel – Venus
Michael – Mercury
Gabriel – Moon

The Central Structures (D. E. F. G. and H.)
The next five levels are all based off of another 7-by-7 grid of letters. Each is read in a different direction. The letters are names of more planetary spirits, originally written in a zigzag pattern, starting in the upper left corner (the “el” of each name was removed in the creation of the grid):
Sabathiel – Saturn
Zedekieiel – Jupiter
Madimiel – Mars
Semeliel – Sun
Nogahel – Venus
Corabiel – Mercury
Levanael – Moon
The names between the outer heptagon and heptagram are constructed by reading the grid horizontally. They are the “Names of God, not known to the Angels; neither can be spoken nor read of man.”
The names within the points of the heptagram are the Daughters of Light. The names within lines of the heptagram are the Sons of Light. The names within the two central heptagons are the Daughters of the Daughters and the Sons of the Sons.

The Pentagram
The planetary spirits are repeated around the pentagram. The letters spelling out Sabathiel (with the final “el” again removed) are scattered around the outside. The next five spirits are spelled out closer to the center, with the first letter of each name within a point of the pentagram. Levanael is at the very center, surrounding a cross, a common symbol of earth.

SIGIL MAGICK & QR CODES

A great potential lies in using QR codes for sigil magick. For example you can make a linkage sigil net across the city in form of QR code stickers that get charged or launched by passing strangers who decide to decode it, or direct the energy to your altar/self. You can share short spells, hide chants, statements of intent, or set url links that lead to some more obscure multimedia which belongs to the complete sigil project.

In QR code you can enter data as text, links, contact cards, info, geo location, etc. QRs are easily made with free web generator sites. After downloaded image file you can take it further:

– colored cells, color gradients and layered sigils as low opacity backgrounds
– thanks to data correction in QR decoding you can “corrupt” 30% of code with centered logo/sigil. Cut unneeded parts so the QR gets better and faster readability.
– some sites offer even funkier design options, as different shapes of the “eye” squares, color variations, or code styles.
– try making 3D styled codes if you listen to witch house a lot (*guilty*)
– magickian can make a magic circle and insert multiple QR codes into it, center piece for summoning and even simpler QR encoded correspondences in corners (simpler the data, simpler the code!)
– finished thing can be printed on stickers (try to make them waterproof by sticking another layer of sticky transparent foil over it, youtube it)
– !!! Always check your code by phone/s, or different QR scan software options while designing your code. Some combinations lower the readability so try to play with opacity, contrast and etc while simultaneously checking it.

– enjoy being an urban reality hacking chaos magickian!

all the best chaotically,

The Trans-Saturnian 3 (Part 3)

The two symbols presented here represent the planet Pluto which was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh.

The planet is named after a Greek god named Pluto, who was the ruler of the underworld. ■
Again, notice the three ingredients for a planetary symbol: the elemental cross: the lunar crescent: and the solar circle.

The second symbol for Pluto is simply the first two letters of Pluto (PL) merged into one.

Again, the trans-Saturnian 3 are new discoveries that don’t fit perfectly into astrology, alchemy or Kabbalah. Though some attribute pluto to Kether, the highest sphere on the tree of life synonymous with god and the beginning of the universe.

It’s interesting that Pluto, a god of the underworld, was the name given to the last “planet” in our solar system as it sits on the edge between the light of the sun and the black abyss of space.

I was tempted to delve into the mythologies of the trans-Saturnian gods, however that is out of the scope of decoding symbols and would require an entire book!

The Trans-Saturnian 3 (Part 2)

This is the symbol for Neptune, the 8th planet from the sun that was officially named in 1846.

The planet is named after the Roman god Neptune, the god of the sea.

We can see 2 of the ingredients for a planetary symbol: a cross & a crescent. The two are stylized to create a 3 pronged trident, which is a symbol attributed to the god Neptune hundreds of years before the discovery of the planet.

The Roman Neptune would correspond with the Greek god Poseidon.

Again it is controversial to use Neptune in astrology, Kabbalah or Alchemy, but within Crowley’s book 4 Neptune is associated with Chockmah (the 2nd sphere on the tree of life). Though this doesnt make too much sense since Chockmah’s element is fire, and Neptune is clearly water. Syncretism is rarely orderly.

The Trans-Saturnian 3 (Part 1)

The symbol above symbolizes Uranus, the 7th planet from the sun, which was officially discovered and designated as a planet in 1781 by William Herschel.

The planet is named after the Greek god Uranus (a name which means “sky” or “heaven”) who is married to Gaia (a name meaning “Earth”).

The first 3 variations of this symbol contain the 3 ingredients for a planetary symbol: a cross: a circle: a crescent.

The H that is formed from the combination of these 3 ingredients is also said to symbolize the H from William Herschel’s last name.

The 4th variation of this symbol is a combination of the sun and mars symbols. This symbol was chosen by J. G. Köhler and refined by Johann Bode.

Within the field of symbolism that relates to qabalah, astrology and alchemy, it is widely debated on the practicality of incorporating the trans-Saturnian planets.

However it should be noted that Uranus can be associated with the “11th” sphereless sphere on the tree of life named Da’ath, according to Crowleys Book 4
