Shavasana (Corpse Pose) is fundamental to modern yoga and has been essential for several hundred years. But it did not start as an asana, and its earliest iteration wasn’t even technically part of hathayoga.
The earliest instruction describes this practice as part of layayoga or the “Yoga of Dissolution,” in which we strive toward “dissolution of the mind.” At this point in history (12th century) the techniques of layayoga are separate from hathayoga and include meditating on emptiness, staring at the tip of the nose and staring between the eyebrows. You may recognize some of these techniques from modern yoga, especially the focused gaze which is now commonly referred to as drishti.
“The three components of all spells and magick rituals: 1. Set your expectation -Know what you want in as much detail as possible -What might you gain or lose? -What might the world gain or lose? 2. Fill expectation with desire -What will it feel like physically, mentally, and spiritually? -What will it look and sound like? -How will it change you? 3. Transcendence/ merger with the Divine -Explode desire and self with all of your energy”
If your a closeted witch, or just want to know some knowledge about various magics like myself. Here is a list of 5 magical alphabets I find very interesting.
1. The Enochian Alphabet
The Enochian Alphabet was created by John Dee and Edward Kelley before the 16th century. The real dates are unknown. They calmed to have received this Alphabet through various visions, which consisted of invoking and commanding spirits. In Dee’s journals, was this script with various other numerous correspounces tables. This documented their research and secrets which are hidden in the Book of Enoch. This language was suppose to be the language God had used to create the Universe, for man to speak to God, and name all things in existence. This Alphabet is mainly known through its appearances in the American Television series, Supernatural. Interestingly, there is also an entire language around this Alphabet as well.
2. The Theban Alphabet
When I was a baby witch I saw this Alphabet come up when I was researching. I used this one when I was still a closet witch. The Theban Alphabet, also known as the Honorian Alphabet, first appeared in a book by Johannnes Trithemius called Polygraphia. Which was written in 1518. Now known as the Witches Alphabet, due to how often it is used by witches still today.
3. The Celestial Alphabet
This Alphabet was made by Agrippa, who was a major influence on people such as John Dee. He argued for magic to be systematic, combining both the natural world and spiritual world by a human participation. This is also known as the Angelic Alphabet, that many use to inscribe things with the element of air. He created in total 3 alphabets from the Hebrew alphabet.
4. Malachim Alphabet
Another Alphabet made by Agrippa, this one is for the element of earth. The original Hebrew alphabet being for fire.
5. Transitus Fluvii
The third Alphabet made by Agrippa, representing the water element. You could guess this due to the translation being, “passing through the river.”
“The Panpsychospere represents the realm of cosmic imagination fro whic which emergent phenomena arise spontaneously and chaotically in all lower spheres and which stimulates creativity”
Peter J. Carroll – The Octavo (Roundworld Edition)
“The Noosphere. Sometimes called the Memesphere, represents the sum of all ideas, beliefs, religions, philosophies, emotions, hopes and terrors arising from all structures capable of creating them”
Peter J. Carroll – The Octavo (Roundworld Edition)
“Sandalphon (“co-brother’) was originally the prophet Elias (Elijah). In rabbinic lore, Sandalphon is one of the
great sarim (angelic princes), twin brother of Metatron, master (hazzan) of heavenly song.
Exceeding Hadraniel in height by a 500-year foot
journey, he is regarded as one of the tallest
hierarchs in the celestial realms – Moses, sighting
him in the 3rd Heaven, called him “the tall angel.”
Talmud Hagiga 13b says his head reaches Heaven
(which was said also of Israfel and of the Greek
giant Typhon).
In Mathers edition of “The Greater Key of
Solomon”, Sandalphon is designated “the left-hand
feminine cherub of the ark.”
In the liturgy for the
Feast of Tabernacles, he is credited with gathering
the prayers of the faithful, making a garland of
such prayers, and then “adjuring them to ascend as
an orb to the supreme King of Kings.”
In 3 Enoch,
Sandalphon is described as ruler of the 6th Heaven
(makon) but, in The Zohar (Exodus 202b), he is
“chief of the 7th Heaven.”
According to Islamic
lore, he dwells in the 4th Heaven. As is reported
of Michael, he carries on ceaseless combat with
the apparently indestructible Samael (Satan),
prince of evil.
The ancient sages identified Sandalphon
with Ophan (q.v.). He is said also, by cabalists, to
be instrumental in bringing about the differentiation of sex in the embryo.”
– From “A Dictionary of Angels, Including the Fallen Angels” by Gustav Davidson (1967).
The bust of Sandalphon is by Florence Freeman. The image of Sandalphon is simply a diagram of the magnetosphere rotated by 90 degrees.
